An introduction to Rodask, the most luxurious watch in the world.
London’s exclusive circle of well-to-do investors have been on high alert since one of the world’s most exclusive watch brands – Rodask – launched its latest offering in London. Rodask was established in 1881 and only make 60 timepieces per year. Truly bespoke, one of a kind and never again replicated, no two Uniqua watches are the same.
Rodask is a hybrid word inspired by the Cyrillic and Roman alphabets. Rod, which is pronounced ‘Rod’, is a reference to the Russian word for bloodline, the ‘SK’ at the end of the word representing a subtle reference to the city of Gdansk, where it all began. Rodask Uniqua are made to the client’s exact requirements and the price range starts at £1m. For the £2m mark odask will fly a leading portrait artist to any part of the world to paint a family portrait or any sentimental portrait. The fully personalised self portrait oil painting can be transferred onto the watch dial, courtesy of one of the world’s finest dial artisans, in a process that takes months.
Stemming from a long family of talented watchmakers, Pawel Penkala survived the Second World War and found peace in his workshop making bespoke timepieces for the great and good of Poland and beyond. His reputation quickly spread and, before long, Pawel became known as one of Eastern Europe’s finest watchmakers. The workshop, still in Lobzenica at that time, continued to become a mecca for aristocrats and the elite as Konrad’s son continued the family craft, refining and improving on his father’s work. Pawel’s son, Wojciech Penkala, was born in 1943 and within two decades was also a highly skilled watchmaker considered by many to be even better than his forebears. By the 1960s the Polish Communist Party knew of the Penkala watch dynasty, and Wojciech was selected for elite horology training in Switzerland and Moscow. He eventually became personal watchmaker to members of the Soviet government elite. Wojciech taught everything he knew to his son, Mariusz, who now carries on the family tradition of passion and precision. They continue to design and make unique watches for the world’s elite.
